Bamanzi Tomb is situated near Lotus Pond and Seven Stars Hillock (Qixing Hillock) in Yuzhong District, Chongqing. No record is available as on when it was built. The existing Bamanzi Tomb is a restoration of 1992. Bamanzi was a general of Ba during the Warring States Period (770-476 BC); his tomb is also called the General Tomb. He persuaded the king of Chu to dispatch troops to help him suppress a civil strife by promising to cede three cities to the kingdom of Chu.
When the war was won, he changed his mind; so he cut down his head and had it sent to Chu kingdom as an apology instead. Deeply moved by Bamanzi's loyalty to his country and land, king of Chu buried his head with respect. The general's own people at Ba buried his body. In honor of Bamanzi's loyalty, people changed the name of Lingjiang City where Bamanzi was born, into Zhongzhou (Loyal County).
